Texas, a Foreign Country?

So I went to go get my drivers license yesterday before we left for San Antonio. I went to one of the worst parts of Arlington and went into this room that was the size of our apartment. I was given the # 44 and then looked at the counter and saw that it was at 8. I thought, "Man, I am in for a long afternoon". After about an hour my # was called and I went around the half partition wall. I then went to a counter where she took my SS card, marriage license and AZ license. She looked at my form and then at me and just started typing. Out of nowhere, she says "2014", I just looked at her with bewilderment on my face and she then says, "Your apartment #". I then agreed with her and she kept typing. She then asked me to stand behind the line and to smile. I took the dreaded DL picture. YUCK!!!! I do not want to see that. She then had me sign and then typed some more. Lastly she handed me this piece of paper and told me I would receive my license in 3-4 weeks.

Now that may not seem strange to some of you, but my AZ fam can tell you it is a little more organized there. Also, we get our license less then 5 min after the pic is taken. I just felt like I was back in Guad and I didn't speak the same language as the people.

Anyway, we are now in San Antonio getting everything ready for Seth's party.

  • OK, so you are now documented as Mrs. Wheeler, and your address is in TX. Nah nah nah! You have to get a new DL every 6 years. AZ DL's are good until we're 60. Oh, I guess that's not that much longer for me. Still, I am never in a hurry to visit a DMV in any state.

  • Well, I've never had trouble with my driver's license but I am having a real time registering for the CPA exam.

  • That sounds comparable to the process for getting a DL in CA. Did the chick give you a few pieces of paper which serve as your temp license until the real one comes in the mail?
I should be doing that within a month or two! :)

  • Have I ever told you about the 5 1/2 hours Ben and I spent at the DPS while waiting to get his permit? It was crowded with long lines but that was not helped by the fact that after our first two hours in line, he remembered that he left his glasses at home and we had to leave and start over. At least you can renew online if you don't get tickets or wrecks. That's a big incentive!
